Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer

Final Summary:

Total Hours to Read: Just under 3

--Average pages per minute: 1.66

Sex/Romance: Nothing. Loved it.

Language: The only "swearing" is in the made up language of Gnommish. Crude expressions and vulgarity on the other hand...most expressions are left unfinished, but it is implied what they mean. Most things said are referring to fictional races, creatures, events, etc. but it is still understood what is being implied (nothing sexual, though).

Violence: There is combat with guns and a mace and some other weapons as well as hand to hand and a little brute force violence, but none of it is described in extreme, graphic detail or anything.

Thoughts: I liked this book! It was a very short read, but there are seven more books in the series. I really enjoyed the level of suspense in this book. The author kept things tight -once the ball started rolling there was no slowing down. I liked that two of the main characters were witty and very well-spoken. I found the narrative voice interesting, but for a little bit wondered whose side I was supposed to be on in the conflicts. I think I prefer having a clear idea of who I am really supposed to be rooting for. I'm not sure how interested I really am in continuing the series, but I did already check out the rest of the series from the library, so I'll give it a go! If anything in the book disappointed me, I chalk it up to the fact that I might be a little older than the target age range for this book. ;)

In the end: I would give this book 3 out of 5 stars, I can't really pinpoint what was lacking, but I can only really fault myself for being too old when I found this series. I am interested to see if the movie does it justice!
