Automata - Guy Movie Night

Rating: R

Could I have watched this with my Mom? : Naw.

Language: Yes. Many f-bombs, etc.

Sex/Romance: There are dancing stripper holograms in the city (at least I think that's what they were), and a robot hooker that is "naked" the entire movie.

Violence/Gore: Yeah, but mostly against robots. (So not a ton of blood or true gore.)

Did I feel the need to leave the lights off and sit in silence afterwards? : I didn't really even like this movie, so no, I moved on immediately.

Was there a food pairing? : Yes, Mom left the house, so Dad and I almost immediately ordered pizza. Ham and extra pepperoni for me.

Thoughts: I mostly felt like this was a waste of time. I was expecting a fun Antonio Banderas action flick, but got instead what felt like a rip-off of "I Am Robot" (even though I haven't seen that movie) that went way too heavy-handed on the "humans are violent, useless trash" line. The music was interesting but most often distracting. The plot was interesting for a while but then started popping up with what felt like a large amount of holes. Several characters felt like 2-dimensional caricatures. Tension was fine I guess, but at the end of the movie I was left with a lot of unanswered questions.

Was this a good use of a night with just Dad? : I didn't think so. I was very disappointed by this movie, but Dad seemed to like it better than I did (but even then he still wasn't sure if he really liked it.)

In the End: 1 out of 5 stars. Extremely disappointed by the plot, but not Antonio Banderas' beautiful voice.
