Bird Box

Summary:

Rating: R

Could I have watched this with my Dad? : Yes.

Could I have watched this with my Mom? : NOPE. (Violence and language are bad, but somehow I feel like she almost deals with tension worse.)

Language: Yes, including some of the f-word.

Sex/Romance: One very brief moment of two people caught naked and having sex, some steamy moments later on in the movie as well.

Violence/Gore: There is some violence and some gore, but I almost feel like if you can get past the horrors at the beginning you will be OK for the rest of the movie. (Suicide is a huge component of the movie, though.)

Music: Minimalistic and perfect for accompanying and heightening the tension and ever-present fear.

Did I feel the need to leave the lights off and sit in silence afterward? : Yes, for a little while through the credits. (Well actually, when I started the movie I knew it might be a bit too intense for me if I turned off ALL the lights, so I left one lamp on next to me and that's how I sat after the movie ended.)

Thoughts: The beginning was quite disturbing. The shock of it kind of put you in the same place as the protagonist, and I really respected it. The plot was unique and fascinating. The characters were engaging. The story kept me engaged and on the edge of my seat the entire time. This is a real thriller. I also added the book to my To Read List once I found out the movie was based on a book!

Was this a good use of a night with the house to myself? : Yep! Finally.

In the End: 4 out of 5 stars for a fun ride!
