Blade Runner -Director's Cut

Rating: R

Could I have watched this with my Dad? : Possibly.

Could I have watched this with my Mom? : Maybe not.

Language: There was one point where the captions said "Father," but I swear what I heard was "f**ker."

Sex/Romance: There is a woman who is said to "take pleasure" from a snake (not in view). Make of that what you will. We get a good amount of bare breasts. Also, there is a super rape-y scene. I think it was meant to be romantic, but I was creeped out beyond belief as it just felt so wrong. The woman tries to leave, and the man, furious, quite aggressively blocks her exit. He then tells her to tell him that she wants him, meanwhile she seems to be crying and is obviously upset and not wanting his rather threatening advances. He forces her to say these "romantic" things to him and then starts making out with her. It is not shown, but it is made clear later that they had sex after that. It felt really messed up. We also get a guy tonguing a dead woman later on.

Violence/Gore: Yes. It's not too bad, simply because it is an older movie and therefore the quality isn't what it could be, but there is a good amount of violence and some gore to go along with it.

Music: Didn't seem to fit at all. It felt like the music was created to fit the viewers' mood as they were meant in awe of what an amazing futuristic world was presented instead of fitting the actual world being presented or the things taking place in it at any given moment.

Did I feel the need to leave the lights off and sit in silence afterward? : Nope.

Was there a food pairing? : Leftovers.

Thoughts: I haven't read the book yet, but I'm hoping it is better than what I just watched.

Some points:

  • The rape-y scene left me feeling gross.

  • While the plotline did seem to hold great potential, in the end there didn't seem to be any point or real direction for the story.

  • There was so much downtime with no apparent purpose.

  • I expected an "ah-ha" moment or a mind-blowing twist or something but never got anything.

  • I found none of the characters to be compelling in any way, shape, or form.

Was this a good use of a night with the house to myself? : No.

In the End: 1 out of 5 stars. 🤞Fingers crossed for the sequel and the book.🤞
