Mortal Engines Quintet - Final Series Review

(aka The Hungry City Chronicles)

Final Summary:

Total Hours to Read: 16 hours 58 minutes (1,677 pages)

--Average pages per minute for the series: 1.65

Romance: Some young, angsty romance throughout the series. Just when you think it's been settled it kicks back up again.

Language: None.

Violence/Gore: Yes and yes. A fair amount of both throughout the series. A lot of violence (pirates, cutthroats, mercenaries, literal war), and a fair amount of gory description scattered throughout the series.

Thoughts: A really good read. If you read my review of the movie "Mortal Engines" then you already know how I feel about the cinematic adaptation. Unfortunately, since I watched the movie after reading only the first book in the series, when I wanted to finish reading the series I first had to go back and read Mortal Engines again to straighten out in my head what had happened in the movie and the way things had actually happened in the book. The first book was my favorite of the series, as it had my favorite main characters before everything went sideways as well as some of the best character developments. I do think that reading the rest of the series is worth it. It won't be as happy as you want, but it will be captivating with the immense amounts of information to still be learned about the world and its inhabitants. I loved how the different storylines had subtle beginnings and then eventually split off and became their own developed stories and then all came back together again in the end for a fantastic finale.

In the end: 4 out of 5 stars. This series was a fun journey of its own!
