Thoughts: What an unexpected follow-up to the first book! (This book is the sequel to The Thief.) I remember being ecstatic when I found out my favorite book had a sequel, and then being horrified at the turn it immediately took. However, by the time I finished I was impressed. I can't say much without spoiling major plot points, but suffice to say I was very worried that everything I loved about the protagonist would be lost (SPOILER>>>>> and was happily proven wrong <<<<<END SPOILER). We see a major expansion in the world, lots of fantastic character development, more well-crafted and integrated lore, history, and mythology, and more amazing cleverness and twists.

This books delves more into the politics, plots, machinations, and war strategies of the warring kingdoms, but rest assured that if you love Eugenides, then you should love this book.

In the end: 5 out of 5 stars, My Queen.
