Thoughts: This book is the start of my all-time favorite young-adult book series. I received the book as a kid as a prize for completing a "read-off" at my local library. A read-off was a summer reading competition event where kids would come to the library and read for five hours. If you stayed and read the whole five hours you got to pick a free book from a box of books at the end. It was a dream for little me. I absolutely loved the book then and in the numerous times I have read it since I have loved it every time.
It is a rather quick read, but Ms. Turner packs a good story into such a small space. It is clever, engaging, and an all-around pleasant read. You get a great story with a very clever and wonderfully snarky protagonist as well as beautifully crafted lore of the world. I really appreciated how the author introduced a lot of information about the world, it's history, and it's gods without ever being obvious or mundane. Great job!👍
In the end: 5 out of 5 stars. Reading this book again was like eating the best comfort food.💜💜💜
